Most people would suggest that in order to cut down our weight, we must go dieting and gym training. Unfortunately, these things are easier said than done. Going to the gym can be very stressful and time consuming with all the exercises that are to be done there. Also, it is very limited to people who have a good health standing since disabled people cannot participate. This is where the alternative forms of exercise come in. One of which is dancing. With dancing, the whole body is used.

A lot of people agree that the hottest and probably the trendiest dance today is Salsa. It is a social Latin dance move that is said to have originated from the Caribbean and is also a blend or an improvisation of other Latin dances, such as Mambo, Cha Cha and Rhumba to name a few, so that you're almost doing 3 dance types in one. Also with the rise of movies such as 'Dirty Dancing' and 'Dance with Me' top-billed by famous Hollywood stars, Patrick Swayze and Vanessa Williams, it just proves that not only Latinos can rule the Salsa dance floor. With its hip-gyrating, butt-shaking yet simple basic moves, anyone, even older people can enjoy this moderately fast-paced dance that also offers a boost of confidence and calorie reduction with every step. Additionally, the dance is accompanied by fun and lively salsa music that keeps your heart pounding with every beat!

The basic steps are quite easy to follow. The beat uses a 4/4 time, but the counting during the dance leaves the 4th beat as a rest so that counting begins as 1..2..3, rest, then starts again as 5..6..7 and rest.

When learning this dance, you should read this little overview:

Your stance should be in a way that you are standing with both your feet close together.

1st beat - Step your left foot forward. By doing so, you're also putting your weight on your left foot.

2nd beat - With the left foot still forward, shift your weight back on your right foot. This may give you the idea of stepping your right foot in place.

3rd beat - Bring your left foot back in place with your right foot.

4th beat - This is considered as the rest period wherein you may prepare for the shifting of foot for the next beat.

Then repeat the steps using the alternate foot, which at this instance is the right foot. Of course when dancing with a partner, alternate feet are used when stepping forward. For example, the man steps his left foot forward while the woman steps her right foot forward.

Summing it up, salsa is loved by cultures from all around the world. It is very simple yet fun which becomes an attention magnet. The usual methods of gym training and diet are no longer needed with the existence of salsa. This would also boost your social life.
